The Method Yoga

What is Ashtanga yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional style of yoga that follows a specific sequence of postures linked by breath and movement. The word “Ashtanga” translates to “eight limbs” in Sanskrit, referring to the eightfold path outlined by the sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. This practice emphasizes synchronization of breath (ujjayi pranayama), postures (asanas), and gaze (drishti) to create a meditative flow.

Ashtanga Yoga is often described as a moving meditation, as it requires focus, discipline, and consistency. It’s ideal for those seeking a structured and challenging practice.

What can I expect?

In this class, you’ll move through a set sequence of postures linked by breath in a flowing rhythm. The practice begins with sun salutations, followed by standing, seated, and finishing poses, each building on the one before.

Ashtanga at The Method is both challenging and deeply energizing — a moving meditation that strengthens the body, sharpens the mind, and awakens the spirit. We offer a variety of classes for all levels.

The Method Yoga

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style of yoga that targets the deep connective tissues, such as fascia, ligaments, and joints. Yin Yoga emphasizes stillness and introspection, helping to cultivate a calm nervous system, improve flexibility and enhance the mind-body connection. It’s the perfect complement to more active practices and a powerful tool for stress relief and emotional balance. This beautiful practice is low intensity and open to all levels.

What can I expect?

In a Yin Yoga class, expect to slow down physically and mentally. You’ll move through a series of postures, each held for 3 to 5 minutes. These long holds gently stretch and hydrate the deeper connective tissues in the body, promoting flexibility and mobility. Yin Yoga can help you improve symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep issues, gut health, and so much more.
