Finding stillness in a world of chaos

It all began with words that shattered my reality: “I’m so sorry to tell you this, but it seems like you have Type 1 diabetes, and your life will never be the same.” From that moment, everything around me blurred. My doctor’s voice faded into a hum of medical jargon I couldn’t process. I left the hospital with a bag full of leaflets, medications, and diabetic tools, ones that I didn’t know how to use, for a life I didn’t yet know how to live.

I sat in my car, overwhelmed and numb. And instinctively, I reached for my phone and messaged my yoga instructor. Can we meet now? Thirty minutes later, I was on my mat, moving through sun salutations. With every breath and every vinyasa, my chaotic thoughts softened. The noise in my head began to quiet. My body, which felt foreign just hours earlier, started to feel like home again. Movement, breath, presence; these were my anchors that helped ground me.

Halfway through the session, a realization settled in. During the months of feeling unwell and not understanding what was happening in my body, the only time I felt like myself, healthy, strong and vibrant was when I was moving. Exercise wasn’t just physical relief. It was my safe space. My clarity.

As I lay in Shavasana at the end of the session, a calm washed over me. For the first time that day, I was able to truly hear what my body was saying. I unlocked my phone, not to escape, but to learn. To understand. To face this new chapter with open eyes and a grounded spirit. That day, I didn’t just begin to accept my diagnosis; I reclaimed my power through movement. It became crystal clear to me: in a world full of chaos, it is movement that brings stillness. Breath that brings clarity. And a deep connection between mind and body that allows us not just to cope, but to evolve.

This is why I move. Movement is not only a method of exercising, it is a method to ground ourselves, to connect within, to be able to observe, soothe the mind and then react in a calm manner. Only with movement can one be able to find stillness in a world of a chaos.
