The Art of Discipline

If I were to be a part of a fairy tale where I am born into this world with no qualities whatsoever, but I do get to pick one quality to have for the rest of my life, something that came naturally and never faded, I’d pick discipline over and over again.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Why discipline? Why not patience, being hardworking, or honesty?”

Because here’s the thing, discipline is what helps build all of those other traits. It’s the glue that holds them together. And it’s not easy. In fact, discipline might be one of the hardest things to develop. It’s that inner battle we all face when your mind tells you to skip the workout, sleep in, or give up, but something stronger inside you says, “Nope, keep going.”

And that “keep going” voice? That’s discipline.

Discipline isn’t something you wake up with one day. It takes time, practice and a lot of showing up even when you don’t feel like it. But once you start to build it, it changes everything. It teaches you how to manage your time better. It helps you stay patient. It makes you honest with yourself. It gives you direction, focus, confidence because you’re proving to yourself, day by day, that you can stick to something. And when that happens? You start to trust yourself more. You grow. You evolve. You become someone who shows up, not just for workouts, but for life.

So, how do you actually build discipline? For me, the answer is simple: Classical Pilates and Ashtanga Yoga.

With Classical Pilates, it’s all about repetition. You follow the method, the same sequence, the same structure, the same repertoire. You don’t steer towards different routes, you commit. And that repetition? It does more than tone your body. It trains your mind to focus, to build internal structure and resilience.

Ashtanga Yoga is the same. You get on your mat. You follow the same flow. Day in, day out. Even when it’s hard. Even when you’re tired. And every time you finish, you feel stronger not just physically, but mentally.

These practices don’t just teach discipline, they are discipline. And the more you do them, the more that discipline starts to show up in other areas of your life too.
